Scott Kuindersma is a seasoned robotics researcher currently serving as Sr. Director of Robotics Research at Boston Dynamics since July 2018, where leadership focuses on mobility and manipulation research for Atlas and other robots. Prior to this role, Scott was the Atlas Project Lead, managing a multidisciplinary team to advance humanoid robot development, and served as Staff Research Scientist, Atlas Controls Lead, specializing in athletic behavior algorithms for Atlas. Academic experience includes an Assistant Professorship at Harvard University, directing the Harvard Agile Robotics Laboratory, and a postdoctoral position at MIT, contributing to the DARPA Robotics Challenge as Controls Lead. Scott's graduate studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst culminated in a Ph.D. in Computer Science, during which time contributions were made to dynamic behavior algorithms and robotic control systems at NASA Johnson Space Center.
