Gemma Cotton has a diverse and extensive work experience. Gemma began their career in 2014 as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Otago, where they also served as a Tutor and Laboratory Manager at the Nanomaterials Laboratory in the Department of Chemistry. In 2017, they co-founded Silventum Ltd., where they served as the Chief Technology Officer. In 2019, they joined the Momentum Investment Committee at Return On Science as a Committee Member and Consultant. From 2021 to 2022, they worked at The Forsyth Institute as a Scientist and at Tender Food as a Materials R&D Manager and Senior Research Scientist - Biomaterials.
Gemma Cotton completed their Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science from the University of Lincoln between 2008 and 2011. Gemma then undertook an Erasmus Studentship at Universidad de Córdoba in 2011, studying Oenology. From 2011 to 2013, they completed their Master of Science in Medical Bioscience at the University of Lincoln. Between 2013 and 2017, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy in both Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology from the University of Otago and The MacDiarmid Institute.
