Donna Jones

Program Chair, School Of Community Studies & Disability Studies at BOW VALLEY COLLEGE

Donna Jones has been an instructor with the Disability Studies program since May 2014 and recently became the Program Chair in 2022. With over 30 years in the field, she continues to follow her passion of inspiring new talent and equipping students with the skills to provide quality support to the individuals in need. She has filled several frontline roles over her three decades of experience, including eight years at Mount Royal University coordinating the inclusive Post-Secondary Education Initiative. She was also the program lead and instructor for the Disability Studies program at Mount Royal University for three years. Previously, Donna worked as a vocational specialist with injured workers and taught for several years at a private school for children with learning disabilities.

Donna is a dedicated leader in the field of disability studies. In 2013, she was awarded the Distinguished Part-Time Faculty Award at Mount Royal University and received the Inclusive Education Award from the Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre (DDRC). She has been nominated for numerous human rights and community inclusion awards. She sits on the Program Development and Review committee for Bow Valley College, and externally on the Workforce Council committee, the Skilled and Healthy Workforce subcommittee, and the Service Providers Council. She holds a Master’s degree in Education with a specialization in Community and Disability Studies from the University of Calgary, and her areas of specialty are in Universal Design for Learning, supported employment, inclusion, growing community capacity, assistive technology, academic modifications, learning strategies, and workplace accommodations.
