Karla Cativo is a dedicated professional with extensive experience in education, outreach, and community organizing. Currently serving as a Radio Host for Resistencia Comunitaria at Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory and a Faculty Lecturer at California State University-Los Angeles, Karla has also held roles as a Part-Time Faculty member in Central American Studies at California State University, Northridge, and as a Senior Organizer at Community Power Collective. Previous positions include Outreach & Organizing Manager at Salvadoran American Leadership & Educational Fund, Outreach & Education Manager at Susan G. Komen for the Cure Los Angeles, and Research Associate at Los Angeles Unified School District. Karla holds an M.A. in Latin American Studies from California State University, Los Angeles, a B.A. in Urban Studies and Planning and Latin American Studies from UC San Diego, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Latin American & Latino Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory supports and advocates for a new framework for viewing diversity, one that is inclusive and reflective of Los Angeles in ethnicity, age, gender, socially and economically and one that removes the barriers for equal opportunities allowing the creative arts industries to grow and thrive. Development for professionals through our targeted programming includes courses in publishing, management, performance rights, licensing, touring, and marketing.
