Dr Jo Twist OBE has a diverse and extensive work experience in the media and entertainment industry. Dr Jo is currently the Chief Executive Officer of BPI (British Phonographic Industry) since 2023. Prior to that, they held the position of CEO at UKIE - The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment from 2012 to 2023. In this role, they led the trade body that represents the games and interactive entertainment industry, working with various stakeholders to support and promote the sector.

Before joining UKIE, Dr Jo Twist worked at Channel 4 as a Commissioning Editor, Education from 2010 to 2012. Dr Jo was responsible for commissioning soft learning content for 10-19 year olds and overseeing media partnerships.

Their experience at the BBC includes roles such as Multiplatform Commissioner, Entertainment and Switch from 2009 to 2010, where they commissioned digital formats and content for entertainment brands. Dr Jo also served as a Multiplatform Research Manager, BBC Three Multiplatform Channel Editor, and Technology Reporter for BBC News Online.

Dr Jo Twist's career also includes a position as a Senior Research Fellow and Head of Digital Society research at the Institute of Public Policy Research, as well as a Broadcast Journalist for BBC Newsround Online.

Overall, they have demonstrated a strong background in digital media, multiplatform commissioning, and leadership in the media and entertainment industry.

Dr Jo Twist OBE (she/her) pursued their education in a chronological manner. Dr Jo attended Fettes College from 1986 to 1991, where they completed their secondary education. Dr Jo then enrolled at The University of Edinburgh, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Cultural Geography from 1992 to 1996. Following this, they pursued further studies at the same institution, completing a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Qualitative Research Methods from 1996 to 1997. Lastly, Dr Jo Twist OBE obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Online Communities from Newcastle University, where they studied from 1997 to 2000.
