Catarina Pires

Catarina Pires is an Application Engineer at B&R Industrial Automation since May 2023, with prior experience as a Master Thesis Student at CREATE Lab from March to October 2022. During the master's thesis, Catarina implemented an advanced computer vision algorithm for fruit localization, employing techniques such as stereo vision, k-means clustering, HSV color segmentation, and shape detection algorithms. Catarina also applied optimization algorithms for harvesting-force sequences based on in-lab demonstrations using a sensorized soft physical twin. Catarina completed an exchange year in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering at EPFL from September 2021 to July 2022 and holds an Integrated Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, obtained in November 2022.
