Samia Huq

Dean, General Education at BRAC University

Samia Huq is a prominent academic with extensive experience in anthropology, gender studies, and education. Currently serving as Professor and Dean of General Education at BRAC University since February 2011, Samia has held multiple roles including Associate Professor and Assistant Professor, where coursework has focused on topics such as religion and gender relations. Samia leads the initiative on Education, Gender and Growth in Asia and has restructured BRAC University's General Education program to enhance liberal arts education. Additionally, Samia serves as Chief Academic Officer for the Open Society University Network and as a Research Fellow at the Center for Peace and Justice. Previous experience includes a visiting scholarship at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Senior Research Fellow position at BRAC Development Institute, contributing to the "Pathways to Women's Empowerment" project. Samia holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Brandeis University.
