Leslie Shumate

Leslie Shumate has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Leslie started their career as a Research Assistant/Intern at the House of Commons in 2008, where they gained experience in office administration and database management. From 2011 to 2016, Leslie worked at Hachette Book Group, initially as an Editorial Intern, then as an Editorial Assistant, and finally as an Assistant Editor, overseeing the publication of picture books and young adult titles.

In 2016, Leslie transitioned to the education sector and joined BrainPOP. Leslie initially served as a Writer, creating quizzes and activities for the company's award-winning educational website. Leslie then became a Senior Writer, where they were responsible for writing and editing assessment and creative-learning content across various subjects. Leslie also played a role in content production for BrainPOP's new science product and led the conversion of Flash-dependent features to HTML5.

Leslie continued to progress in their career at BrainPOP and became a Production Manager in 2020, where they oversaw the production of content for the company's science product. Leslie'smost recent position at BrainPOP is Senior Content Design Manager, which they assumed in March 2021. In this role, Leslie manages the production of NGSS-aligned lessons, interactive learning tools, assessments, and teacher support materials for BrainPOP's middle school science product. Leslie is responsible for writing and editing lessons, assessments, and activities, ensuring content consistency, and engaging students in scientific reasoning and practices.

Leslie Shumate completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies and Journalism from the University of Notre Dame from 2006 to 2010. In 2008, they participated in the University of Notre Dame London Program. Prior to attending university, they completed their high school education at Villa Walsh Academy from 2002 to 2006.
