Dr. Gulcan Semra Sahin has extensive work experience in various scientific and research roles. Gulcan Semra currently works as an Application Scientist at BrainXell, Inc. since April 2023. Prior to that, they were a Research Associate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from April 2020 to April 2023.

Dr. Sahin also has experience as a PhD Graduate Student at Washington State University from August 2014 to March 2020. During their time there, they managed two studies on proper neuronal development in the memory and learning center of the brain, published both studies as a lead author in peer-reviewed papers, and presented them in national and international conferences. Gulcan Semra also established several molecular biology techniques and taught them to PhD students.

Before pursuing their PhD, Dr. Sahin was an MSc. Student at Koç University from September 2012 to July 2014. During this time, they implemented a protocol for Chromatin Immunoprecipitation followed by Sequencing and identified genome-wide targets of a transcription factor essential for normal neuronal development. Gulcan Semra published these results as a lead author in a peer-reviewed paper and co-authored another peer-reviewed paper.

Additionally, Dr. Sahin worked as a Medical Department Assistant at Pfizer from September 2011 to September 2012.

Gulcan Semra Sahin, PhD, obtained their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics & Chemistry from Boğaziçi University between 2006 and 2012. Gulcan Semra furthered their education by pursuing a Master of Science (MS) degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology at Koç University from 2012 to 2014. Continuing their academic journey, they pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Neuroscience at Washington State University from 2014 to 2020. In 2010, they also had a brief educational experience at the University of Gothenburg.
