At a time of rising misinformation and declining trust in news organizations, Branch Four is working to strengthen local, fact-based reporting across the country.

Founded by a data science executive, Branch Four is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that brings data and technology expertise directly to local newsrooms. We help fact-driven news organizations grow their audiences, tell better stories, and build the sustainable foundations they need to serve their communities for the long haul.

Here's how we work with newsrooms:

- Local Data Lab — We provide small newsrooms a full data and tech team - at a fraction of the cost of hiring technical staff in-house. Our team of talented, volunteer coders work directly with newsrooms to transform raw data into compelling stories, visualizations, and interactive tools that deepen reader engagement and community trust.

- Audience Development — Rigorous, data-driven research to define your target audience, understand what they care about, and reach them more effectively through content, distribution, and product.

- Data Consulting — Strategic guidance to strengthen audience infrastructure, measurement, and KPIs.

- Training & Workshops — Hands-on sessions that build the quantitative confidence journalists need to find, understand, and visualize data independently.

Most local newsrooms don't have the time or resources to build this expertise in-house — and they shouldn't have to. That's what we're here for.

If you work in local media, journalism funding, or civic technology, we'd love to connect.
