Sheila Lopez

General Counsel at Braven

Sheila joined Braven in 2013 and has worn several hats since. Currently, she is Braven’s first General Counsel where advises on a range of legal matters including partnership agreements, transactions, data privacy, intellectual property, and risk mitigation. Sheila also supports the CEO with strategic external stakeholder relationships and partnerships. She was on the founding Braven team and the founding Executive Director for Braven at Rutgers University-Newark.

Prior to Braven, she was an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell working in the investment management group. Sheila began her career in education as an Education Policy Analyst for the New York City Council Education Committee Chair Eva Moskowitz and was a member of the founding team of Harlem Success Academy Charter School as Director of Instructional Development. She also worked on Eva Moskowitz’s campaign for Manhattan Borough President.

Sheila graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University where she majored in History and Literature, and has a JD from Harvard Law School. She serves on the Success Academy Leadership Council and StudentsFirstNY’s nonprofit board, and is a founding member of Level, a diverse professional women’s network addressing the racial wealth gap by investing in Black women entrepreneurs. Sheila is a first-generation college graduate and a daughter of immigrants.
