Arelis Palacios has a strong background in education and student services, with experience at various universities and educational organizations. Currently, Arelis holds the title of Educator Training Consultant at Freedom University Georgia and Director of College & Career Success Team at Breakthrough Central Texas. Prior to this, Arelis worked in various roles at Georgetown University, The University of Texas at Austin, Florida State University, and Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Arelis is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Policy and Planning at The University of Texas at Austin.

In Central Texas, only 8% of middle school students from low-income communities will go on to earn a college degree. To combat this inequity, Breakthrough makes a 12-year commitment to help children become the first in their families to graduate from college. Our program focuses on a combination of extended learning, comprehensive advising, and leadership experiences to help students prepare for, persist through, and ultimately, graduate from college. From middle school to high school to college through college graduation, we are there every step of the way. In 2018, Breakthrough will serve more than 1,650 students in Central Texas.
