Breakthrough Central Texas
Johana Ortiz Suchil is a Post-secondary Advisor at Breakthrough Central Texas since September 2021, managing a caseload of over 40 high school juniors and seniors to assist them with college and career aspirations. Previously, Johana worked as a Cashier Customer Service representative at Lowe's Companies, Inc. and served as a CAMP Peer Academic Coach at St. Edward's University, where mentorship was provided to incoming freshmen. Additional roles included working as an Office Assistant in the Student Disability Service and a Desk Worker at Dujarie. Earlier experience includes positions at McDonald's and Little Caesars Pizza, culminating in an Assistant Manager role. Johana holds dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration and Spanish Language and Literature from St. Edward's University and has also attended Université catholique de l'Ouest. Educational background includes a High School Diploma from Tivy High School.

In Central Texas, only 8% of middle school students from low-income communities will go on to earn a college degree. To combat this inequity, Breakthrough makes a 12-year commitment to help children become the first in their families to graduate from college. Our program focuses on a combination of extended learning, comprehensive advising, and leadership experiences to help students prepare for, persist through, and ultimately, graduate from college. From middle school to high school to college through college graduation, we are there every step of the way. In 2018, Breakthrough will serve more than 1,650 students in Central Texas.
