Breakthrough Central Texas
Zakiyyah Kareem is the Chief Student Support Officer at Breakthrough Central Texas, where Zakiyyah provides academic, emotional, and developmental support to students and families. Previously, Zakiyyah held roles at Capital Area Counseling, Texas Education Agency, and Girlstart. Zakiyyah holds a Master of Arts in Counseling from St. Edward's University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin.
Breakthrough Central Texas
In Central Texas, only 8% of middle school students from low-income communities will go on to earn a college degree. To combat this inequity, Breakthrough makes a 12-year commitment to help children become the first in their families to graduate from college. Our program focuses on a combination of extended learning, comprehensive advising, and leadership experiences to help students prepare for, persist through, and ultimately, graduate from college. From middle school to high school to college through college graduation, we are there every step of the way. In 2018, Breakthrough will serve more than 1,650 students in Central Texas.
