Barmak Heshmat

Founder CEO at BRELYON

Barmak Heshmat has been working in the technology industry since 2008. Barmak began their career as a Ph.D. Researcher at the University of Victoria, where they gained experience in optics design and operation, clean room and nanofabrication, and lab instruction. In 2012, they were invited to give a TEDx talk about terahertz technology. In 2014, they were invited to give a TEDx talk about the future of imaging. In 2016, they founded Imaginarium of Technology, an initiative at MIT that brings together top-tier scientists and concept artists to visualize future tech. In 2017, they became the Head of Optics at Meta Co., where they led a team of optics and design engineers and submitted 8 patents. In 2018, they founded BRELYON, where they developed a new category of displays that amplifies the visual experience of computers. In 2020, they were invited to be a speaker at TED Conferences.

Barmak Heshmat received a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering from Isfahan University of Technology between 2002 and 2008. Barmak then went on to pursue a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Optics/Optical Sciences from the same university. Finally, they completed a postdoctoral in photonics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 2013 and 2015.
