Debra Dobkins

IVP of Student Services at Brenau University

Debra​ ​Dobkins​ ​​is​ ​Interim Vice President for Student Services and Dean​ ​of​ The​ ​Women’s​ ​College​ ​at​ ​Brenau​ ​University,​ ​a​ ​position​ ​she has​ ​held​ ​since​ ​2012.​ ​Joining​ ​the​ ​university​ ​in​ ​1998,​ ​she​ ​has​ ​also​ ​served​ ​as​ ​a​ ​professor​ ​of English​ ​and​ ​the​ ​founding​ ​director​ ​of​ ​Brenau’s​ ​Writing​ ​Center.​ ​Overseeing​ ​nearly​ ​1,000 residential​ ​and​ ​nonresidential​ ​students,​ ​Dobkins​ ​is​ ​tasked​ ​with​ ​continuing​ ​the​ ​Women’s College​ ​liberal​ ​arts​ ​education,​ ​with​ ​a​ ​rich​ ​history​ ​dating​ ​back​ ​to​ ​1878.​ ​As​ ​an​ ​Irene​ ​K. Woodruff​ ​Scholar,​ ​she​ ​earned​ ​a​ ​bachelor’s​ ​degree​ ​in​ ​English​ ​and​ ​a​ ​Master​ ​of​ ​Arts​ ​in Teaching​ ​English​ ​from​ ​Agnes​ ​Scott​ ​College​ ​before​ ​completing​ ​a​ ​Ph.D.​ ​in​ ​language​ ​and literacy​ ​education​ ​at​ ​the​ ​University​ ​of​ ​Georgia.
