Michael H. Smith is currently the Chair at Brenau University. Prior to that, they were a Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology from August 2021 to August 2022, where they taught eight Technical Communication courses and served on the Assessment Committee.

Before that, they were a Graduate Fellow at Penn State University from August 2017 to August 2021, where they had teaching experience with ENGL 15, Rhetoric and Composition (4 sections), ENGL 30, Rhetorics of PA Theirtory, ENGL 602; Supervised Experience in Teaching (co-taught); ENGL202C, Technical Writing (3 sections). Michael was also a Research Assistant to Dr. Cheryl Glenn from 2018-2019 and a Research Assistant to Dr. Kirt Wilson in Spring 2019. In addition, they were a Graduate Assistant for the Program in Writing and Rhetoric from 2019-2020 and a Center for Democratic Deliberation Dissertation Fellow from 2020-2021.

Previously, they were a Teaching Assistant at the University of Maryland from August 2015 to May 2017.

Michael started their career as a Writing Center Consultant at Denison University from August 2012 to May 2015.

Michael H. Smith has a Doctor of Philosophy from Penn State University in Rhetoric and Composition, a Master of Arts from the University of Maryland in English, and a Bachelor of Arts from Denison University in English Literature and Theatre Arts.
