Michael Flanagan has extensive experience in educational leadership and governance. Currently serving as a Steering Committee Member for The Center For Michigan's Bridge Magazine and an Advisory Council Member for The Henry Ford, Michael also contributes to the Education Committee at the Detroit Zoo. Previously, Michael held significant roles, including State Superintendent of Schools for Michigan and Executive Director of the Michigan Association of School Administrators. Additionally, Michael served as Superintendent for both Wayne County RESA and Farmington Public Schools. Michael's educational background includes degrees from the University of Notre Dame, Eastern Michigan University, Michigan State University, and the University of Michigan.

For all state residents, diverse civic stakeholders and philanthropy, the Center for Michigan (the “Center”) and its newsrooms – Bridge Michigan & BridgeDetroit – drive healthy and informed policy dialogue and problem-solving by publishing Michigan’s most impactful nonprofit public service journalism and community information in the face of traditional newspaper decline. The Center focuses on in-depth explanatory and watchdog reporting while working collaboratively with various media to deepen and widen public consumption of in-depth reporting. The Center’s mission is to make Michigan better through high-quality, nonpartisan journalism & engagement.
