John B. O'Neal III has a diverse work experience that spans multiple industries. John B. started their career in 2012 as a Kitchen Staff at Angus Barn Restaurant. In 2013, they worked as a Server at Sanitary Fish Market and Restaurant, followed by a Server position at Winston's Grille in 2014. In 2015, John worked as a Server at Gideon's Ridge Inn and also took on the role of Summer Research Assistant at Nexus Project. John B. continued their involvement with Nexus Project in 2015 as a Full-Time Graduate Research Assistant, where they led research, design, installation, and maintenance projects. From 2015 to 2017, John took on the role of an Odd Jobs Entrepreneur as a self-employed individual. In 2017, they joined Green Mountain Energy Company as a Renewable Energy Field Sales Agent, where they worked independently and as part of a team to sell cleaner electricity. Currently, John serves as Head Grower at BrightFarms, a position they have held since 2020.

John B. O'Neal III completed their education in a chronological order. John B. attended Broughton High School from 2007 to 2011, where they obtained their high school degree. John B. then enrolled in Appalachian State University and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Sustainable Development with a minor in Appropriate Technology, which they successfully completed from 2011 to 2015. During their undergraduate years, in 2014, they also participated in a Study Abroad program at the Center for Ecological Living and Learning, focusing on Sustainable Development. After completing their Bachelor's degree, John furthered their education by pursuing a Master's degree in Sustainable Technologies in the Built Environment at Appalachian State University, from 2015 to 2017. Additionally, in 2015, they obtained a certification in Permaculture Design from Appalachian State University.
