Derek Heinz is an experienced educator and administrator currently serving as Principal/Campus Director at Brightmont Academy since 2022 and as Assistant Head of School at Chestnut Hill Academy since 2018. Responsibilities include leading curriculum and instruction, evaluating staff performance, and acting as a liaison for the parent and student community. Previous roles include Dean of Students at McKnight Middle School, where Derek focused on professional development and restorative justice, and Assistant Principal at Issaquah High School, where Derek implemented curriculum reforms and provided advisory services to a large student body. An English teacher for nearly a decade prior, Derek also has experience in coaching soccer and basketball, developing educational materials, and mentoring future educators. Derek holds a Master's degree in Educational Administration from Washington State University and a Bachelor's degree in Education and English from Western Washington University.
