Damien Austin currently serves as the High Performance Manager at Brisbane Lions since November 2015. Previously, Damien held roles as a Strength and Conditioning / Tackling Coach at Sydney Swans Ltd from November 2011 to October 2015, and as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for NSW Swifts Netball for a brief period in early 2013. Prior experience includes positions such as High Performance Coach at Sydney Roosters Rugby League Club from November 2009 to October 2011 and Athletic Performance Coach at Queensland Reds (International Super Rugby) during 2008-2009. Damien holds a Graduate Diploma in Sports Law from the University of Melbourne, a PhD from The University of Queensland, a Master's in Exercise Science from Edith Cowan University, and a Bachelor of Education from QUT (Queensland University of Technology).

The Brisbane Lions are an Australian Rules Football Club which participates in the Australian Football League (AFL) and was formed from the merger of the Brisbane Bears and the Fitzroy Lions in 1996. The club appeared in four consecutive AFL Grand Finals between 2001 and 2004, winning three (2001, 2002 and 2003) to become one of the most successful teams of the modern era. They also boast one of the most successful AFLW teams since the competitions inception, playing in four grand finals, and winning one Premiership in 2021.
