Head Of Performance Support at British Athletics

Michael Johnston has extensive work experience in the field of sports science and physical preparation. Michael started their career in 2003 as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the English Institute of Sport, providing support to athletes from various sports. Michael then joined the Welsh Sports Council in 2005 as a Senior Strength and Conditioning Coach, working with world-class performance and elite Cymru athletes. In 2006, they moved back to the English Institute of Sport as the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach, where they coordinated support for athletes in the South West of England. From 2009 to 2013, they served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Sports Institute Northern Ireland, overseeing the physical development of junior athletes and providing consultancy to professional sports and athletes. In 2013, they joined UK Athletics, initially as a Consultant Strength and Conditioning Scientist, and later took on the roles of Physical Performance Lead and Head of Sport Science and Physical Preparation. Additionally, they worked as a Performance Consultant at Johnston Performance Science from 2015 to 2020. With their diverse experience and expertise, Michael Johnston has played a crucial role in optimizing the physical performance of elite athletes.
