Garry Baker

Director of Informatics at British Geological Survey

Garry Baker is a seasoned professional with extensive experience at the British Geological Survey since 1996, currently serving as the Director of Informatics and Interim Chief Digital Officer. In this capacity, Garry leads the National Geoscience Data Centre, overseeing the management of national geoscience data assets. Garry has also contributed significantly as Head of 'Data Science', ensuring the accessibility of data for scientific research. Previous roles include Senior IT Project Manager and Database Developer, with involvement in various IT projects across the UK and EU, including commercial initiatives with UK Nirex Ltd and international projects in Botswana and Malaysia. Garry holds an M.Sc in Information Technology & GIS from Keele University and a B.Eng (Hons) in Industrial Geology from the University of Exeter.
