Kathy Ortiz has a diverse work history in the field of education. Kathy began their career as a Middle School Teacher with the NYC Department of Education in 1996 and later transitioned to become a General Education and Gifted & Talented Teacher. Ortiz also worked as an AIS provider and Teacher Mentor for new teachers during their time with the NYC Department of Education. In 2010, they became an Assistant Principal before moving to the Family Life Academy Charter School II in 2012, where they served as an Assistant Principal and eventually became the Principal. Ortiz then joined the Family Life Academy Charter Schools High School as the Founding Principal in 2021. Kathy'slatest role is with the Bronx Charter School for the Arts, where they are currently the Chief Academic Officer and has previously served as the Interim Executive Director and Executive Director.
Kathy Ortiz holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Teaching from Hunter College, which they obtained from 1992 to 1996. In addition, they pursued a Master's of Science degree in Reading Teacher Education at Hunter College. Moreover, Kathy obtained a Master's of Science degree in Educational Leadership and Administration, General from Brooklyn College.

Bronx Charter School for the Arts is a public elementary school founded on the principle that a rich and vibrant background in the arts is a key catalyst for the academic and social success of all students.
