Stephan Carlson, MD, MBA, FAPA has a diverse range of work experience in the field of psychiatry and medical education. Currently, they serve as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. Prior to this, they held leadership roles at One Brooklyn Health, including Director of CPEP, Director of Medical Education and Faculty Development, and Director of Comprehensive Psychiatry Emergency Program. Additionally, they are the Editor in Chief of Adolescent Psychiatry at Bentham Science, where they oversee a peer-reviewed journal focused on diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders in adolescents. Stephan is also an Assistant Professor at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and has held teaching positions at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, Ross University School of Medicine, New York Medical College, and Hofstra North Shore-Long Island Jewish School of Medicine. Furthermore, they have contributed as a student at BehavioralHealth2000 and served as the Director of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Training at Elmhurst Hospital Center.

Stephan Carlson, MD, MBA, FAPA has a diverse education history. Stephan obtained their MD degree in Medicine from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and also earned a BA degree in Biology and Humanistic Studies from The Johns Hopkins University. Stephan completed their Internal Medicine Residency Program at New York University Downtown Hospital and PGY2 Psychaitry Residency at Saint Vincent's Catholic Medical Center. Stephan further specialized in Psychiatry by completing a Psychiatry Residency Program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Additionally, they completed a Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program at Columbia University Medical Center.

In addition to their medical and psychiatric education, Stephan Carlson has pursued various certifications in different areas. These include certifications in peer support, seclusion and restraint, child mental health crisis, and other topics from the American Psychiatric Association. Stephan has also obtained certificates in various business and nonprofit management topics from institutions such as Quantic School of Business and Technology, LinkedIn, and NonprofitReady. Stephan has also participated in co-reviewing with a mentor through Clarivate.
