Abhay Deshpande

Abhay Deshpande serves as the Associate Laboratory Director for Nuclear and Particle Physics at Brookhaven National Laboratory, leading the Nuclear and Particle Physics Directorate, which encompasses operations of the RHIC and the transition to the Electron Ion Collider (EIC). Abhay is also a SUNY Distinguished Professor at Stony Brook University, where research focuses on polarized proton beams and nucleon spin studies. Additional roles at Stony Brook include Director of Undergraduate Studies in Physics & Astronomy and previous positions as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of Physics. Abhay's prior experience includes serving as Director at the Center for Frontiers in Nuclear Science and as a Scientific & Strategic Advisor at the RIKEN BNL Research Center. Abhay holds a Ph.D. from Yale University in High Energy Experimental Particle Physics and an M.Sc. in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
