Nora Friedman has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of music education. Nora was the Suzuki Violin Department Head at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music from 2017, where they mentored and guided faculty members, managed a large student program, organized concerts, and taught Suzuki violin classes. Prior to that, from 2007, they owned and operated the Bed Stuy Suzuki Violin Studio, where they taught private lessons, led group classes, and organized recitals. Nora also worked at The Elisabeth Morrow School as part of their Summer String Festival and was the Suzuki Violin Asst. Dept. Head/Faculty at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music from 2011 to 2017. Additionally, they were part of the faculty at the Preparatory Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College from 2011 to 2013. In 2006, they founded the violin program at Excellence Boys Charter School and served as the Administrative Director of Violin Group Classes at the Thurnauer School of Music at the JCC on the Palisades in 2006-2007. Nora also founded the violin program at The High School for Violin and Dance, where they taught and mentored students from 2002 to 2006, while organizing performances, collaborations, and educational trips. Nora has been involved in teaching, mentoring, program development, and performance organization throughout their career.
Nora Friedman obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin American Studies from Wesleyan University in the years 1997 to 2001. Following that, they pursued a Post Baccalaureate degree with a focus on the Studio of Weigang Li at Montclair State University, which they completed in 2008. Nora then went on to earn their Masters of Music in Violin Performance from the Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, where they studied under Masao Kawasaki. Nora completed this degree in 2010.
