Sharon Matt Atkins

Sharon Matt Atkins is an accomplished art professional currently serving as Deputy Director for Art at the Brooklyn Museum since March 2009. Throughout tenure at the museum, Sharon has held various leadership roles, including Director of Exhibitions & Strategic Initiatives, Director of Curatorial Affairs, Vice Director for Exhibitions & Collections Management, Managing Curator of Exhibitions, and Associate Curator of Exhibitions. Prior experience includes serving as Assistant Curator at the Currier Museum of Art from 2004 to 2009 and as a Research Assistant at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston from 2002 to 2004. Sharon holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Art History from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Art & Design with an emphasis on Museum Studies from Iowa State University. Additionally, Sharon completed the Museum Leadership Institute in 2018.
