Selvon Smith

VP, Information Technology & CIO at Brooklyn Public Library

Selvon Smith joined the library in 2004 and serves as the vice president of information technology and CIO at Brooklyn Public Library (BPL). In this role, he oversees technology support for the Library’s 60 branches and all administrative departments. Smith also manages web and enterprise applications, technology support, help desk services, computer networking and AV services. In addition, he is responsible for managing computing, networking, databases and software infrastructures, implementing new technology initiatives, setting technology standards, approving technology purchases and providing thought leadership for new enabling technology.

Selvon earned a degree in electrical engineering at Polytechnic University. He is a member of the American Library Association and of the National Society of Black Engineers and serves on the board of St. Mark’s Day School. Smith began his career at the library working part-time in the literacy department.
