Emmet O'Brien started their work experience in 1988 as a Business Analyst/Assistant Manager at Transfreeze Cold Stores Ltd. Emmet then worked as an IT Consultant at Molloy & Sherry International Ltd in 1996. In 1998, they became a Software Engineer at Knowledge Well Ltd and later a Software Programmer at KBA Systems Ltd. Emmet then joined CRH in 2000, where they held various roles such as Visual Basic Programmer, MIS Report Writer, and Business Analyst/Application Administrator. Emmet worked as a Full-Time Athlete for the Irish Rowing Team from 1995 to 1997. As a Full-Time Student at DCU, they were a part of the university from 2012 to 2013. Currently, Emmet is working as an Application Level 2 Team Lead at Brown Thomas Arnotts since February 2022 and has also worked as a Business Analyst supporting retail and other IT business applications at the same company since April 2014.

Emmet O'Brien obtained a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Information Technology from Dublin City University, which they completed between 2006 and 2013. Prior to that, they earned a Programming in 'C' 3 Certificate City & Guilds degree in Information Technology from Griffith College Dublin from 1998 to 1999. In 1997 to 1998, Emmet received a City & Guilds Certificate in Computer Software Development from Fitzwilliam Institute Ltd., Blackrock, Co. Dublin. Recently, they also obtained an edX Verified Certificate for Exercising Leadership: Foundational Principles from edX in the year 2021.
