Trevor Hoey

Professor Trevor Hoey took up the new role of Vice-Provost (International and Academic Partnerships), and Professor of River Science, at Brunel University London in September 2019. Previously he was at the University of Glasgow as Professor of Numerical Geoscience and Dean of the University of Glasgow Singapore.

Trevor’s research is in hydraulics and sediment transport, where he has combined field, laboratory and modelling approaches to understand the mechanics of sediment transport and how these control landscape development. His current projects (in 2019) include refining flood-risk mapping in the Philippines (NERC – Newton Fund) and river basin management in China (NERC).

After joining the University of Glasgow in 1992, Trevor held the roles of Head of School and of College Internationalisation Lead, was Director of the Scottish Alliance for Geoscience, Environment and Society, and had a range of external appointments.

Trevor has worked internationally throughout his career, starting as a Commonwealth Scholar in New Zealand. He has researched collaboratively with colleagues in Europe, East and South-East Asia and North America, and has led field research projects in Greenland, China, Philippines and Indonesia in recent years. He has taught on a transnational education programme in China, and has extensive experience of developing and maintaining international partnerships, and of international student recruitment.
