Phil Smith has a long and varied work experience. Phil began their career in 1987 when they joined the United States Air Force as an Air-Launched Missile Systems Maintenance Specialist. In 1992, they joined the United States Air Force Reserve as a Bioenvironmental Engineering Technician. In 1993, they worked as a part-time Research and Development Technician at Streck Laboratories. In 1996, they ran for Omaha City Council District 6. In 1998, they became a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of North Dakota. In 1999, they worked as an Arms Control Policy Analyst at SAIC. In 2000, they joined Futron as a Space Industry Analyst. In 2007, they became the Communications Director at Secure World Foundation. In 2010, they joined BryceTech as a Program Manager and Senior Analyst. Additionally, they have been a freelance artist since 1987, specializing in the relationship between art and science.
Phil Smith attended the University of North Dakota from 1997 to 1998, where they earned an MS in Space Studies. Prior to that, they attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha from 1993 to 1996.
