Research Director (bioinformatics Research Professor) at BSRC Alexander Fleming

Georgios Pavlopoulos has a diverse background in bioinformatics and has held multiple roles in both academia and industry. Georgios began their career as a Visiting Lecturer of Bioinformatics at the University of Thessaly in 2010. From there, they worked as a Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Researcher at BSCR Alexander Fleming in 2010, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven from 2011 to 2012, and the Medical School University of Crete from 2013 to 2015. In 2015, they joined Berkeley Lab as a Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Researcher. In 2018, they became the Director of Bioinformatics at the Center of new Biotechnologies & Precision Medicine, University of Athens, School of Medicine, as well as the Director of Bioinformatics at BSRC Alexander Fleming. In 2021, Georgios worked as a Bioinformatics Consultant at Mammoth Biosciences. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Bioinformatics Data Scientist at Ancilia Biosciences, and they are also a Teaching Staff member at Hellenic Army Academy.

Georgios Pavlopoulos completed their Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Ethnikon kai Kapodistriakon Panepistimion Athinon from 2000 to 2004. Georgios then pursued a Master's Degree in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology from the University of Leeds from 2004 to 2005. After that, Georgios obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Bioinformatics from EMBL (European Molecular Biology Laboratory) with the degree being awarded from the University of Heidelberg from 2005 to 2009.

Georgios further enhanced their education by completing several certification courses. In 2015, they obtained certifications in various subjects such as Algorithms for DNA Sequencing, Bioconductor for Genomic Data Science, Command Line Tools for Genomic Data Science, Genomic Data Science with Galaxy, Introduction to Genomic Technologies, Python for Genomic Data Science, and Statistics for Genomic Data Science. These certifications were earned from institutions like Coursera Course Certificates and Johns Hopkins University.

Most recently, Georgios pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Administration and Management, General from Athens University of Economics and Business from 2019 to 2022.
