Joined the Faculty of Science, University of Mansoura in 1972. He served as a Prof. of Physics, since 1981, Vice Dean (1986), first Vice President for Community and Environmental Development (1992), and President of the University of Mansoura (1994–2001). The Sector of Community Service and Environmental Development and the Communications and Information Technology Centre in Mansoura University have been established under his supervision. He served as Vice President (2005) then President of the British University in Egypt (2008-2013). He Established the Interferometry and Fiber Optics Research Laboratory in Mansoura University. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (London), Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society (Oxford), Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences. He has more than 140 scientific publications in reputable international journals including the book “Interferometry of Fibrous Materials” Published by Adam Hilger, England. Prof. Hamza has been awarded The Egyptian National Award in Physics (1987), The State Prize of Merit in Basic Sciences (1997) and the Nile Prize in Advanced Technological Sciences (2005). He was granted a Doctor honoris causa from the Technical University of Liberec, Czeck Republic (2000).
