Oliver Hookins

Oliver Hookins has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Oliver started their career as a Salesperson at Dick Smith Electronics in 1995. Oliver then worked as a Computer Technician at Exhibition IT Services, where they provided on-site and remote support for Windows, Linux, and Unix systems.

In 2005, Oliver joined Anchor as a Senior Systems and Network Administrator, managing Linux systems and network infrastructure. Oliver also mentored and supervised a team of Level 2 systems administrators.

Oliver then moved to Nokia in 2009, where they initially worked as a Principal Engineer, focusing on Services and Developer Experience. Oliver later became a Technical Lead, responsible for building an IaaS/PaaS solution for rapid deployment of Location-Based Services. Oliver led a large team to implement continuous integration and deployment, improving DevOps practices within the organization.

From 2012 to 2016, Oliver worked at SoundCloud, first as a Backend Engineer in the Playback team, focusing on audio performance and quality. Oliver then became an Engineering Manager, overseeing the development and delivery of client libraries and backend services for audio playback on the platform.

In 2016, Oliver joined Contentful as an Engineering Manager in the Backend JavaScript Chapter. Oliver later transitioned to a role as a Reliability Engineer, working on infrastructure, CDNs, automation, and developer productivity. Oliver was also involved in coordinating Agile workflows and growing individuals and teams.

Oliver then moved to Atlassian in 2019, initially as an Engineering Manager working on the Jira Cloud Platform. Oliver contributed to projects related to enhanced email notifications, server to cloud migration, and decomposing the Jira monolith codebase. In 2020, they joined the Kubernetes team, where they were involved in coordinating and planning initiatives for Atlassian's internal compute platform needs.

Currently, Oliver is working at Bugcrowd as a Principal DevOps Engineer. Oliver serves as the technical lead of the Infrastructure Team, managing AWS infrastructure and optimizing cloud spend.

Throughout their career, Oliver has gained experience with various technologies such as Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, Chef, and multiple programming languages including Go, JavaScript, Ruby, and Python. Oliver'sroles have ranged from technical hands-on work to leadership and management responsibilities.

Oliver Hookins completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Computing from Macquarie University between 2000 and 2002. Prior to that, they attended the University of Sydney from 1998 to 2001, although the specific degree and field of study are not provided.
