Lita Barrie has a diverse work experience in the library field. Lita started their career in 2004 at the Hamilton Public Library as a Youth Services Librarian. Lita then moved on to the Brantford Public Library, where they worked as the Manager of Children's & Popular Services from 2007 to 2010. After that, they joined the Grimsby Public Library as the Chief Librarian/CEO from 2010 to 2012.
From 2013 to 2018, Lita worked at the Hamilton Public Library in various roles. Lita served as the Director of Digital Technology & Youth Services from 2013 to 2016, the Director of Collections & Youth Services from 2016 to 2017, and the Director of Collections & Program Development from 2017 to 2018.
In 2017, they also worked as a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Information. Currently, they are the Chief Executive Officer of the Burlington Public Library, a role they have held since 2018.
Lita Barrie has a diverse education history. Lita earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art History from Concordia University in 1999. Lita went on to obtain a Master of Library and Information Studies degree from McGill University between 1999 and 2001. In 2008 to 2010, Lita pursued a Library Sector Leadership Certificate from the University of Victoria's School of Public Administration. Continuing their professional development, they completed a Professional Certificate in the iSchool's Public Library Leaders Program at the University of Toronto from 2012 to 2014. Lita also gained expertise in Lean Six Sigma methodology by obtaining a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate from McMaster University Continuing Education in 2016. Most recently, in 2022, they completed a Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Inclusion from Centennial College.
