Ali Athar

Ali Athar has extensive work experience in finance and accounting roles. Ali began their career as a Tax Accountant at Linn Thurber Arnold & Skrabanek LLP in 2006. Ali then joined Marathon Oil Corporation in 2006 and held various positions, including Lead Internal Auditor and Cost Control Supervisor. In 2015, Ali moved to VAALCO as a Sr. Joint Venture Accountant before joining BW Offshore as a Financial Controller in 2017. Ali was later promoted to Vice President of Finance & Accounting at BW Energy in 2020. In this role, they oversaw all accounting, tax, treasury, finance, and reporting activities, and was responsible for building and leading a finance team. Additionally, Ali implemented new systems and tools to improve efficiency and mentored colleagues in the E&P business.

Ali Athar completed their O/A-levels in Business from Keynesian Institute of Management & Sciences (KIMS) from 1996 to 1999. Ali then pursued a Bachelors in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting and Finance at the University of Houston-Downtown from 2000 to 2005. Currently, they are a candidate for an Executive MBA at Rice Business - Jones Graduate School of Business, expected to complete in 2025.
