Sandra Torres, MPA, currently serves as the Latino Engagement and Relations Coordinator at Cabarrus Health Alliance since January 2014, where responsibilities include identifying health issues within the Hispanic community and providing recommendations for culturally relevant program development. Additionally, Sandra is the Cofounder and President of El Puente Hispano, focusing on bridging communication between the Latino population and local entities. Previous roles include coordinating outreach programs for the Hispanic community as the REACH Program Coordinator and providing cultural bridging in diabetes outreach initiatives. Sandra has a strong background in translation, having worked as a Freelance Translator at Precise Translating LLC, and previously served as the Assistant Director for Special Programs at SchoolFood in New York City, where management, training, and service coordination were key duties. Educationally, Sandra holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a degree in Business Communication Management from City University of New York- Bernard Baruch College.
Cabarrus Health Alliance
The Cabarrus Health Alliance (CHA), the health department serving Cabarrus County, brings nationally recognized leadership and expertise in public health to the the NC Research Campus. CHA is one of the only nationally certified public health departments in the country. CHA provides many free to low-cost classes and programs for the residents of Cabarrus County on subjects such as healthy cooking, yoga, nutrition education and disease management. Classes and programs are offered at the CHA headquarters in Kannapolis and throughout Cabarrus County in neighborhood centers, churches and other facilities.
