Eric Tao has a diverse work experience spanning several prestigious organizations. Eric started their career as a software engineer at ROM in 1988 and worked there until 1993. Eric then co-founded WingTech Corp, a digital imaging company, where they served as the Co-CEO from 1994 to 1998. WingTech Corp was later acquired by AreoSino Inc. In 1998, they joined California State University, Monterey Bay as a Chair/Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sci and Tech. Eric was quickly promoted to tenured Associate Professor in 2001 and Full Professor in 2004. During their time at the university, they also served as the Founding Director of the Institute for Innovation and Economic Development from 2009 to 2018, where they secured public funding and private donations to support research and technology transfer. Since 2003, Dr. Tao has also held the position of Director and Full Professor at the School of Computing and Design at California State University Monterey Bay, leading its growth and development to over 1000 students. In 2018, they became the President of the University of East-West Medicine until 2022.
Eric Tao has an extensive education history. Eric obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from UC Irvine between 1992 and 1997. Prior to that, they earned an M.S. in Computer Science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology from 1986 to 1987. Eric also holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in computer science from National Sun Yat-Sen University, which they completed from 1981 to 1985. Additionally, they attended Taipei Jianguo High School for their high school education in Science and Technology from 1978 to 1981. Eric began their educational journey at Zaixing School, where they completed their preliminary education between 1966 and 1978.
