Thomas Herman

Thomas Herman is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Calamos Investments. Prior to joining Calamos, they served as the CFO and Treasurer at Harris Associates from January 2010 to December 2016.

At Harris, Herman was responsible for accounting, financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, risk management, banking, tax and treasury functions. Thomas was also the Principal Financial Officer of the Oakmark Mutual Funds and Financial and Operations Principal (Series 27 License) for Harris Associates Securities L.P.

During their time at Harris, Herman led a feasibility study of a new pooled investment vehicle to implement actively-managed exchange traded managed funds. Thomas also saved $2.6 million over five years by reducing healthcare spending growth. Additionally, they renegotiated Oakmark Mutual Funds’ $500M line of credit, maintaining credit level and reducing annual commitment fee by $360K during a period of shrinking market liquidity. Furthermore, they saved $4M annually in revenue sharing costs by enhancing 3rd-party data sharing process. Lastly, they improved Oakmark’s marketing image by redesigning shareholder reports to improve relevance and readability, while reducing expenses by $250K annually.

In addition to their work at Harris, Herman also led the successful $18M two-year office and data center relocation project that transformed the work place by improving communication, collaboration, and the application of IT. Thomas also transformed the human resources function by recruiting superior HR talent, transitioning payroll and shifting focus from administration to talent management. Thomas Herman's educational career includes a BS in Engineering from Cornell University, an MBA in Finance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a CPA certification from the Illinois CPA Society.
