Charles Burton has extensive work experience in the field of Information Technology. Charles started their career as a Network Analyst at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in 1994 and later worked as a Systems Analyst at Structure X from 1995 to 2002. Following this, they served as a System Administrator at Lake Charles Medical Surgical Clinic from 2002 to 2005. Charles then joined the Calcasieu Parish School Board as a Network Operations Coordinator, where they managed a technical staff providing operational support for data center and voice/data networks. From 2011 onwards, Charles has been working at the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury as the Information Technology Director. In this role, they are responsible for directing all IT operations and the development of new technical solutions for local government agencies.

Charles Burton has a comprehensive education history in the field of computer science. Charles obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science from the University of South Florida in the years 2017 to 2019. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science at the University of Phoenix from 2000 to 2002. Additionally, they hold an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Computer Science Technology from McNeese State University, which they earned from 1992 to 1994. Charles also pursued a BA degree in Drafting Technology at McNeese State University from 1989 to 1992.

Before their college education, Charles completed their high school education at Saint Louis High School.

In addition to their formal education, Charles has obtained various certifications throughout their career. Charles received the Certified Government Chief Information Officer certification from CompTIA in May 2022 and the Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals certification from Microsoft in January 2022. Charles obtained the Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals certification in February 2021 and the Master Certificate in Enterprise Cybersecurity Leadership from the National Association of Counties in April 2020. Furthermore, Charles holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from (ISC)², which they obtained in March 2020.

Charles has also received certifications like the LSU Executive Development Program from LSU Executive Education in September 2014 and the ICS-100, 200, 300 IS-700, 800 certifications from FEMA in July 2011. Charles holds the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification from the Project Management Institute since January 2008, the MCSA certification from Microsoft since February 2006, and the MCSE certification from Microsoft since February 1998. Additionally, they obtained the CompTIA A+ Certification from CompTIA in August 1997 and the MCP certification from Microsoft in February 1996. More recently, they acquired the ITIL® 4 Foundation CPD certification from AXELOS Global Best Practice in May 2021.

Lastly, Charles completed the Dale Carnegie Course provided by Dale Carnegie Training, although the specific completion dates are unavailable.

Calcasieu Parish (pronounced CAL-ca-shoo) is located in Southwest Louisiana and has a population of 192,768.
