Laura Patel

Laura Patel is an accomplished professional in aquatic management with extensive experience at the California Academy of Sciences, serving as the Associate Director of Steinhart Aquarium since August 2005. Responsibilities include the development, care, and management of the Aquarium's living collection, operations, and supervision of staff. Additionally, Laura has held roles such as Senior Manager of Animal Health and Aquarium Operations and Animal Health Manager. In parallel, Laura has contributed to the Aquatic Animal Life Support Operators (AALSO) as President and in various board positions, overseeing communication, financial health, and event coordination. Previous experience includes managing animal husbandry at PALCO and serving as a Quarantine Aquarist at Landry’s Downtown Aquarium. Laura holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries Biology from Humboldt State University, emphasizing Aquarium Sciences and Marine Fisheries.
