Mara Hancock

Acting Chief Operating Officer at California College of the Arts

Mara Hancock has been a driving force in the world of educational technology for over two decades. Mara began their career at DigitalThink, where they led the Educational Technology Services department and provided services to a user-base of over 50,000 faculty, students, staff, and research teams. In this role, they oversaw a staff of 55 – 65 employees and an annual budget of $7 million.

In 2010, Hancock took on the role of Director for Online Learning at the University of California Office of the President, where they established the strategy and roadmap for the system-wide start up project to design, deliver, and evaluate online undergraduate courses. During their time at UC, Hancock also served on the IT Leadership Group, which provided oversight for IT investments across the University.

In 2011, Hancock joined The New Media Consortium as a Board Member. In 2014, they were appointed Chief Information Officer at California College of the Arts. In this role, they are responsible for leading the information technology division and overseeing all aspects of technology for the college.

Mara Hancock has a MA in Instructional Technology from San Francisco State University and a BFA in Fine Art from the California College of the Arts. Mara is also certified as a Thought Leader from Credly (2017), EDUCAUSE (2016), and as an EDUCAUSE Online Presenter (2015-present). Additionally, they are a member of the EDUCAUSE Connect Program Committee and a proposal reviewer for EDUCAUSE (2015-present).

Mara Hancock reports to Stephen Beal, President. They are on a team with Maira Lazdins - AVP, HR, George Sedano - VP Student Affairs, and Anthony Huberman - Director, Wattis Institute.
