Steve Juarez

Steve Juarez is Deputy for Economic Development and Higher Education Policy in the Office of California State Treasurer John Chiang.

Prior to his appointment in October of 2016, Juarez was Associate Vice President and Director of State Government Relations for the University of California, where he was responsible for all policy matters affecting the University that come before the California Executive Branch and Legislature. In addition, he has held positions as Executive Director of JPMorgan’s Public Finance Division; Director of Financial Management for the J. Paul Getty Trust; Assistant Vice Chancellor for Government & Community Relations at UCLA and Chief Legislative Representative for the County of Los Angeles in Sacramento. He also served the California Debt Advisory Commission as Executive Director.

Currently, Juarez sits on the Boards of the National Association of Counties Financial Services Corporation and the Southern California Leadership Network. He is a member of the California State Association of Counties Finance Corporation and a Senior Fellow with the Luskin School of Public Affairs at UCLA. For five years, he also served as an appointed member of the Los Angeles City Fire and Police Pension Board.

Juarez is a graduate of UCLA (B.A., Political Science) and USC (Masters of Public Administration).
