Michael R. Wing

Michael R. Wing is a seasoned educator and maritime professional with extensive experience in both fields. Currently serving as a Deckhand/Educator and Naturalist at Call of the Sea since May 2021, Michael R. Wing teaches shipboard lessons and activities aboard the tall ships MATTHEW TURNER and SEAWARD, while also managing sails, passenger services, and crew training. Prior to this, a long tenure at Tamalpais Union High School District from August 1998 to June 2025 involved teaching Physics and Biology to 9th and 10th graders, leading approximately 100 school field trips, and co-authoring peer-reviewed academic papers with students. Academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from UC San Diego and a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago.
