Yuliang Zheng

Dr. Yuliang Zheng is Co-Founder and former Chief Technical Officer at Calyptix Security. In the early years of the company, Yuliang was an important technical advisor, helping to shape the foundation of what would become AccessEnforcer UTM Firewall, the company’s flagship product.

Yuliang received his bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1982 from Nanjing Institute of Technology in Nanjing, China. He received master’s and doctorate degrees in computer engineering from Yokohama National University in Yokohama, Japan. From 1991 to 2001, he served as a faculty member in three Australian universities: Australian Defence Force Academy, University of Wollongong, and Monash University. He later joined the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as a professor and founded the Information Security and Assurance Center.

Yuliang joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2015 and serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science. There he pioneered academic programs in Big Data Analytics, Cyber Security, Bioinformatics and related fields. He has authored and co-authored hundreds of scholarly research papers in academic journals. He is also the creator of signcryption, a cryptographic primitive accepted as an ISO international standard for data security.
