Chris Buchko

General Counsel at Calyxo

Chris Buchko has extensive experience in the legal field, particularly in intellectual property and startup companies. Chris is currently working as the General Counsel at Calyxo, Inc. since June 2020. Prior to that, they served as an Advisory Council Member at HERicanes from May 2021 onwards. From April 2012 to December 2019, they co-founded and worked as an Attorney at Corridor Law Group, providing intellectual property services to startup and growing companies in research-intensive industries.

Chris Buchko also held the position of General Counsel at NeoTract, a urology startup that was later acquired by Teleflex. Chris served in this role from January 2015 to January 2018. Concurrently, from June 2012 to December 2014, they also held the position of Director of IP and Senior Counsel at NeoTract.

Before their time at NeoTract, Chris Buchko worked at Vibrynt, Inc. as the Director of IP and Senior Counsel for a brief period in 2012.

Chris also has experience working as a Partner at Chapman and Cutler LLP from August 2010 to April 2012, and as a Partner at McAndrews from January 2004 to August 2010, where they represented clients in patent prosecution and litigation proceedings.

Chris Buchko began their career in 1997 as a Legal Associate/Patent Agent at Guidant Corporation, where they conducted IP portfolio analysis and supported patent prosecution. Chris also worked as a Senior Research and Development Engineer at Guidant Corporation, developing proprietary bioactive coating technology for medical devices.

Chris'searliest work experience was as a Research Assistant at Affymax Research Institute from June 1991 to August 1992, where they worked on drug discovery and made contributions to several patents.

Chris Buchko completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Stanford University from 1987 to 1991. Chris then pursued further education and received their Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Michigan between 1992 and 1997. Later on, they attended Santa Clara University School of Law, where they obtained their Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree specializing in Law from 2000 to 2004.
