Rong Chen MD PhD has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Starting in 1997, Rong Chen worked as a Surgery Resident and PhD candidate in general thoracic surgery at Zhongshan Hospital, affiliated to Shanghai Medical University. In 1999, Rong Chen began working as a PhD candidate in medical informatics at Karolinska Institutet. In 2000, Rong Chen joined Letsbuyit.com AB, Sweden as a System Developer, where they focused on back-end system design and development for a large-scale e-commerce site. Rong Chen's academic pursuits continued at Linköping University, where they became a PhD Candidate in Medical Informatics in 2006. Rong Chen's involvement in the field of informatics continued with their roles at The openEHR Foundation, where they served as the Lead of the Java Implementation Project in 2004, and later as a Member of the Management Board from 2013 to 2018. Rong Chen also served as a Member of the Architecture Review Board from 2008 to 2013. In 2005, Rong Chen joined Cambio Healthcare Systems and assumed the role of Technical Architect until 2007, when they became the Chief Medical Informatics Architect until 2008. From 2008 until the present, Rong Chen has held the position of Chief Medical Informatics Officer at Cambio Healthcare Systems. Most recently, in 2019, Rong Chen became the Chief Executive Officer of Cambio CDS.

Rong Chen MD PhD obtained their Bachelor of Medicine degree in Clinical Medicine from Fudan University, where they studied from 1991 to 1997. Later, from 2006 to 2009, they pursued their Ph.D. in Medical Informatics at Linköping University.
