In 1994, Hickey worked as an assistant producer at the Royal National Theater in London. John James (JJ) also worked at the University at Albany, SUNY as an adjunct professor from 1985 to 1987, and at the University of Wisconsin - Baraboo as an adjunct professor in 2005.

Hickey had a role as a director's shadow in network television from 2000 to 2006. John James (JJ) also contributed to the independent film industry as a director starting in 2000.

Currently, their educational pursuit continues at Yale University, where they are enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program for Drama and Dramatics/Theatre Arts.
