Michael Smith-Knutsen has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Michael started their career in 1994 as a Product Manager at AirWorks Media | Synclavier, where they were involved in music editing, network administration, hardware/software support, and partner communication. In 1998, they founded Dittybase Inc., a Production Music licensing company, and served as the Product Manager until 2013. Their responsibilities included business analysis, budgeting, and web-based system development. From 1999 to 2013, they also worked at Dittybase Technologies Inc. as the VP of Product Management. In 2004, they co-founded The Decibel Collective, a production music label, and worked as a Product Manager until 2013. Michael then joined Fujitsu Canada in 2014 as an Implementation & Learning Management/Trainer, where they provided training for the Aspen Student Information System. In 2016, they joined SIS.support as a Training Support Consultant, focusing on training and supporting schools and school districts using the Aspen SIS. Michael later joined Soundboard Consulting Inc. in 2013, where they worked in Application Training until 2017. Currently, they hold the position of Director Information Technology Operations at Canada ICI Capital Corporation, where they manage IT operations and previously worked as an IT Support Analyst. Throughout their career, they have gained expertise in IT support, training, project management, music production, and business development.

Michael Smith-Knutsen attended Ross Sheppard Composite High School from 1983 to 1986. Michael did not obtain a degree or specialize in any field during this period. From 1992 to 1994, they pursued a Music degree with a focus on Recording & Production at MacEwan University. In addition to their formal education, Michael has obtained several certifications. In January 2013, they received the CSTS-09 certification from BCCSA. Later, in September 2015, they became a Certified ScrumMaster and in November 2015, they obtained the Certified Scrum Product Owner certification, both from the Scrum Alliance.
